LEGO® History

Since 1949 LEGO® has released over 20,000 sets. Intially this was a more educational style of building sets, with a greater play emphasis occuring after the introduction of the minifigure. The modern era has been characterised by a wide range of licenced sets with a greater focus on adult builders looking for a display rather than play experience.

During the past 75+ years the LEGO® design language evolved and has been refined. Some parts were created for a single set whilst others have been widely adopted. The way the instructions are presented and the complexity of individual build steps has also changed.
